Linda Loder. Art has been a big part of Lindas life since childhood. A native Californian she grew up with art. Her mother was a self-taught painter, who also taught art classes for many years.
Linda started with black and white renderings, in an attempt to be different than her mother, whose works were filled with color. For many years the art work she produced was done with a quill pen and India ink or graphite. Loving the details possible with such a medium she received great satisfaction from her work. As a child she entered works in the county fair, receiving several awards. In high school, she was awarded the senior Academic Award in art (this was her first year as an art student). That award is still very special to her.
Once Lindas children were grown, she started to work with her art again. Not finding the same satisfaction with the colorless images, she attended an art class that was offered by the Castro Valley adult school where she met Shirley Dominiak and colored pencils. She became lifetime friends with both of them. She has worked almost exclusively with colored pencils since 1997.
Linda strives to put a piece of the personality of the subject into her work. She has accepted consignment work for pet portraits that have been very well received. Her work is mostly realism in an attempt to get it right.
Linda feels that her art is still in its infancy and is striving to loosen her control by allowing the subject to emerge and develop on its own. It is a particular challenge learning how to let the imagery from within find its way out and into the painting.
